Several national pro-life groups plan to protest what they call the “abortion extremism” of Virginia Democrats on Saturday.

Some of the participating groups include the Susan B. Anthony List, the Virginia Family Foundation, Students for Life, Heritage Action for America, Concerned Women for America, and the March for Life.

The rally will kick off at 12 p.m. Saturday at South County High School in Lorton, Virgina, the hometown of Democratic Virginia state representative Kathy Tran, whose comments defending her late-term-abortion bill went viral.

Tran acknowledged at a hearing on the bill that a mother would be allowed to request an abortion up until the moment of birth if it was passed. She later claimed that the bill would not in fact allow an abortion so late in pregnancy, and Virginia’s Democratic governor, Ralph Northam, caused controversy by defending her remarks.

“So in this particular example, if a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen,” Northam said, apparently talking about “non viable” fetuses. “The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mothers.”

Tran’s and Northam’s comments, which came shortly after New York governor Andrew Cuomo signed a bill loosening restrictions on late-term abortions in his state, sparked outrage among pro-lifers.

“On the heels of New York’s radical expansion of abortion, Delegate Tran’s bill and Governor Northam’s statements reveal with alarming clarity what the modern Democratic Party stands for and their agenda for our nation — abortion on demand, up until the moment of delivery and even beyond,” read a statement from Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List. “This position is irreconcilable with the beliefs, values, and desires of most Americans.”
